How to use virgin coconut oil — in the kitchen, on skin and hair
Virgin coconut oil is one of the most versatile natural products you can keep at home. Cold-pressed and unrefined, CocoSabay oil is solid at room temperature and melts on contact with warm skin or a hot pan. Here are the everyday ways people use it.
In the kitchen
Coconut oil has a high smoke point, which makes it well suited to frying, sautéing and roasting. A spoonful gives pancakes, curries and stir-fries a gentle, naturally sweet coconut note. In baking it works as a plant-based replacement for butter in cakes, cookies and granola. You can also stir a teaspoon into coffee, porridge or a smoothie for a smooth, creamy texture.
On the skin
As a cosmetic, virgin coconut oil is used as a simple, single-ingredient moisturiser. Warm a small amount between your fingers and massage it into dry areas such as elbows, knees and heels, or use it after a shower to help skin feel soft. Many people also use it to remove make-up or as a lightweight massage oil.
On the hair
Applied to the ends of the hair before or after washing, coconut oil is a traditional conditioning treatment that helps hair feel smooth and look shiny. Use a small amount, focus on the lengths rather than the scalp, and wash out any excess.
How to store it
Keep the jar closed in a cool, dark place. The oil naturally turns liquid above about 24 °C and solid below — both states are perfectly normal and do not affect quality.
